ABI JENNINGS
- Instructor, Judge
Abi has been dancing since 1998, when she found her way into Lindy Hop at the Derby in Hollywood during the height of the Neo-Swing era. Growing up in Los Angeles, partner dancing drew her in for a specific reason: she had always been someone who led in life, and she wanted to understand what it meant to follow.
Her background spans Lindy, Balboa, West Coast Swing, American Ballroom, Social Latin, Hustle, and more. When she moved to North Carolina in 2006, she found the West Coast Swing community thriving and leaned into it, drawn as much by the social fabric as the dancing itself. She settled in Huntsville for fourteen years, and is now happy to be a part of the Philadelphia dance community.
Before she was a dancer, Abi was a musician. She performed professionally on piano and as a vocalist into her mid-twenties, when her focus shifted to raising kids and, eventually, to dance. She has been returning to music lately, finding her way back to piano and singing alongside everything else.
As a teacher, she brings a cross-trained ear and a bodyworker’s instinct for how people move and learn. She believes there is always something to learn and improve on, and that belief shows up in how she teaches.
